SUPPORT FOOD brown bear Marsica
INITIATIVE ON Lazio side of the Park of Abruzzo
Association Italian for the Wilderness, which since its inception has dealt with the protection of the brown Marsicano, having obtained a financial support by an international foundation (Foundation for Gaia ) decided to ensure completion of a project to support, on an experimental basis and limited to the authorities which should then further enhanced the nutritional needs of the brown Marsicano in high Ciociaria and Val Comino.
The project stems from the fact that in recent years, sowing of each type of culture is almost coming to an end for a number of reasons, ranging from the demographic decline of those who practice agriculture, the lack of any compensation for the damage that bears and other wildlife were causing to the fields, the non-payment di contributi volti a favorire il perdurare di queste pratiche. Ciò ha causato il quasi totale abbandono della pratica di coltivare il mais, un tempo la cultura più ricercata dall’Orso (ma anche di carote, grano ed altri cereali, erba medica e lupinella).
L’iniziativa ha avuto già un primo tentativo lo scorso anno, quando si sarebbe dovuto intervenire nella Vallelonga marsicana, ma che finì per abortire a causa di problematiche politiche e per la difficoltà di vedere una convinta partecipazione da parte dell’Ente Parco a causa di problemi di natura economica (oltre che, purtroppo, per l’opposizione di un certo mondo scientifico contrario a questa pratica per favorire l’orso), per cui si poté seminare un unico modesto terreno a Pescasseroli, in quanto ottenuto in donazione da un mecenate sostenitore dell’AIW.
Quest’anno l’AIW vorrebbe spostare la zona di interesse nell’alta Ciociaria e nella Val Comino. Come già lo scorso anno l’iniziativa sarà sostenuta da tre organismi privati: la Foundation for Gaia , l’ Associazione Italiana per la Wilderness ed il Centro Scout “Brownsea Park” di Sora/Villavallelonga, e punterà su di una sperimentazione esemplificativa che interessi solo some land, but which could then be extended to a larger number of land and involve the whole piedmont (also reviving an agricultural practice that is about to be lost). The initial budget with which they start is 1,000 Euro per year. Of this amount Euro 500 are insured by the Foundation for Gaia, 350 Dall'AIW and € 150 Euro Browsea Park Scout Centre. An act of good will and philanthropy that will hopefully be followed by other private and public organizations, so that this project will have the most success.
